INTRODUCTION
The Monash Gallery of Art (MGA) invites photographers to submit works in competition for the William and Winifred Bowness Photography Prize, to be awarded to the most outstanding photographic work as determined by the selection panel. The William and Winifred Bowness Photography Prize has been initiated by Mr Bill Bowness in honour of his late parents. Mr Bowness is the Chairman of the Monash Gallery of Art Committee of Management — a position which he has held for the past seven years.
Established to promote excellence in photography, the Prize and exhibition will provide an opportunity to view and engage with some of the most interesting contemporary work produced over the past year.
All still photo-based media including analogue and digital photography will be considered. The Prize is open to all Australian residents and entries must have been completed no earlier than 1 June 2005.
All entries will be assessed by a selection panel comprising:
> Director, Monash Gallery of Art: Ms Jane Scott;
> Mr Bill Bowness; and
> Guest judge: Mr Bill Henson.
The winner will be announced on Thursday 24 August 2006 and finalists' works will be exhibited in the accompanying exhibition from Friday 25 August to Sunday 12 November 2006.
