INTRODUCTION
The Monash Gallery of Art (MGA) invites photographers to submit works in competition for the 2007 William and Winifred Bowness Photography Prize, to be awarded to the most outstanding photographic work as determined by the selection panel.
The William and Winifred Bowness Photography Prize has been initiated by Mr Bill Bowness in honour of his late parents. Mr Bowness is the Chairman of the MGA Committee of Management .
Established to promote excellence in photography, the Prize and exhibition will provide an opportunity to view and engage with some of the most interesting contemporary work produced over the past year.
All entries will be assessed by a selection panel comprising:

Dr Alison Inglis; Trustee MGA Foundation
Pat Brassington: photomedia artist
The winner will be announced on Friday 7 September 2007 and finalists’ works will be exhibited in the accompanying exhibition from Saturday 8 September to Sunday 11 November 2007.
.............................................................................. TERMS & CONDITIONS
1. Entries for the 2007 William and Winifred Bowness Photography Prize will be considered from still photo-based media including analogue and digital photography.
2. Work/s of any size or dimension may be submitted for entry.
3. Work/s must have been produced in 12 months prior to 25 May, 2007.
4. The selection of finalists is judged in DIGITAL and/or PRINT form only. Judges will select one work only for exhibition from each chosen finalist.
5. Entries must include
• up to 5 digital images on CD (Jpeg, 300 dpi, PC format) AND/OR artist proof prints (approx 20 x 25cm).
No original or finished prints should be submitted for selection.
• a completed entry form
• a CV (2 page maximum)
• an entry fee of $50 (including GST).
Entries must arrive at the MGA by 4:00pm on Friday 25 May 2007.
6. Each CD must be clearly marked in permanant marker with the artist’s name and a title of work/s. Do not use adhesive labels. Multi-panelled works are considered as one work and must be shown in its entirety in one digital image or one artist’s proof print.
7. Entry fee is $50 per artist. The entry fee is non-refundable and covers administration, handling and the return of materials. Any entry not accompanied with payment of the entry fee will be deemed ineligible.
8. Payment of the entry fee may be made by cheque to Monash Gallery of Art, credit card or EFTPOS. (see over for payment form) Receipts will be mailed.
9. Envelopes must be addressed to: The William and Winifred Bowness Photography Prize, Monash Gallery of Art, 860 Ferntree Gully Road, Wheelers Hill Victoria 3150.
10. Emailed entries will not be accepted.
11. The judges’ decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
12. The judges will award a cash prize to the value of $10,000 for the winning work.
13. Employees of the MGA, the City of Monash, or members of the MGA Committee of Management, the MGA Foundation, or the organisers and members of their immediate families are ineligible to enter.
14. Entrants must be over 18 years of age as of 25 May, 2007.
15. The entrant must consent to the MGA reproducing the entered work in all publicity
and promotion of the Prize, including all electronic/digital or print media, subject to the MGA’s discretion.
16. All entries accepted for exhibition must be available for continuous display at the MGA throughout the period of the exhibition.
17. The MGA will not be responsible for any loss or damage whatsoever or however caused, to any work while in transit to and from the Gallery. All works will be condition
reported on arrival at the MGA. Any damage in transit will be immediately reported to the artist. The work is insured, at the entrants’s nominated insurance value, whilst
in-situ at the Gallery.
18. A shortlist of finalists will be advised by Friday 13 July, 2007 and will be required to send or deliver their original work to the MGA by 4:00pm Friday 10 August 2007. Successful applicants will be telephoned and notified in writing. Unsuccessful applicants will be notified by letter.
19. Final judging will take place once the works have been installed. The winner will be announced on Friday 7 September, 2007.
20. Works selected for exhibition must be ready for installation (all elements required to install the work must be supplied).
21. The judges reserve the right not to exhibit any work if the work is not, in their opinion of sufficient merit, finished technical quality, or framed/presented appropriately. The MGA has the right to refuse to display any entry.
22. Delivery and return freight will be at no cost to the MGA.
23. All selected works will not be available for sale throughout the exhibition.
24. If an artist fails to remove a work from the MGA within one month of the close of the exhibition, the MGA will follow the following procedure. After sending a notice by post to the artist at the last known address of its intention to dispose of the work, the Gallery may then destroy or otherwise dispose of the work in such a manner as it may deem fit. Thereafter the Gallery shall be under no liability to the artist in respect of any work so destroyed or disposed of.
25. All personal information gathered by the MGA will be used solely for the purpose
of administering the 2007 William and Winifred Bowness Photography Prize.
