| INTRODUCTION The annual William and Winifred Bowness Photography Prize is an initiative of the MGA Foundation. The Foundation invites entries for the 2009 William and Winifred Bowness Photography Prize. $20,000 will be awarded for a photographic work by an Australian artist completed in the last year. The prize is non-acquisitive. All entries will be assessed by a selection panel comprising: Final judging will take place on Wednesday 25 November 2009, .............................................................................. TERMS & CONDITIONS ELIGIBILITY 1. Entries for the 2009 William and Winifred Bowness Photography Prize (2009 Bowness Prize) will be considered from still photo-based media including analogue and digital photography. 2. An entry must not exceed (h)200 cm x (w)250 cm (including frame). 3. Multi-panel works may be accepted where their dimensions do not exceed the specified dimensions in total. A multi-panelled work is considered as one work and to be eligible for selection must be shown in its entirety in one digital image. 4. Work/s must have been produced in the 12 months prior to 7 August 2009. 5. Employees of MGA, the City of Monash, or members of MGA Committee of Management, MGA Foundation, or the organisers and members of their immediate families are ineligible to enter. 6. Entrants must be over 18 years of age as of 7 August 2009 and be a resident of Australia. ENTRY 7. The selection of finalists is judged in digital form only. Judges will select one work only for exhibition from each chosen finalist. Photographs, photocopied reproductions, emailed images, slides or any other representation of work will not be accepted for the selection process. 8. Entrants must submit: 9. Entry fee is $50 per artist. The entry fee is non-refundable and covers administration and handling. Any entry not accompanied with payment of the entry fee will be deemed ineligible. Disks will not be returned. 10. Payment of the entry fee may be made by cheque to Monash Gallery of Art or credit card (see Entry Form for payment details). Cash payments will be accepted only at MGA. Receipts will be mailed. 11. Envelopes must be addressed to: 2009 William and Winifred Bowness Photography Prize, 12. Emailed entries will not be accepted. EXHIBITION AND JUDGING 13. Short-listed finalists will be advised by Friday 11 September 2009 and will be required to: 14. Short-listed works will be exhibited from 6 November to 13 December 2009. 15. Works selected for exhibition must be ready for installation. All elements required to install the work must be supplied. 16. All entries accepted for exhibition must be available for continuous display at MGA throughout the period of the exhibition. In the event of the 2009 Bowness Prize travelling exhibition, short-listed works will be retained by MGA to travel to selected venues. 17. Selected works will not be available for sale throughout the exhibition. 18. The judges decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into. 19. The judges will award a cash prize of $20 000 (non acquisitive) for the winning work. A People's Choice award of 20. The entrant agrees to MGA reproducing the entered work in all publicity and promotion of the Bowness Prize subject to MGA's discretion. 21. Final judging will take place on Wednesday 25 November 2009, along with tallying of the People's Choice award nominations. The winners will be announced on Thursday 26 November 2009. 22. The judges reserve the right not to exhibit any work if the work is not in their opinion of sufficient artistic merit, technical and formal resolution, or framed/presented appropriately. MGA has the right to refuse to display any entry. FREIGHT AND INSURANCE 23. MGA will not be responsible for any loss or damage whatsoever or however caused, to any work while in transit to and from the Gallery. All works will be condition reported on arrival at MGA. Any damage in transit will be immediately reported to the artist. The work is insured, at the entrant's nominated insurance value, whilst in-situ at the Gallery. 24. Delivery and return freight will be at no cost to MGA. 25. After 10 January 2010, artworks not collected from MGA will incur storage charges. INFORMATION 26. All personal information gathered by MGA will be used solely for the purpose of administering the 2009 William and Winifred Bowness Photography Prize.
