MGA is seeking a driven Associate Curator for a 13 month maternity leave cover position. The Associate Curator will work alongside a dedicated team to deliver on MGA's exhibition program and provide guidance on collection management and development.
Monash Gallery of Art (MGA) is the Australian home of photography. We champion Australian photography, and inspire audiences to embrace, explore and value photography. As Australia’s only public art gallery wholly dedicated to the collection and promotion of photography, with the only public collection solely dedicated to Australian photography, MGA holds a special place in the country’s network of art galleries and museums.
This is a 13-month Maternity Leave position.
MGA’s exhibitions are at the heart of operations. The Associate Curator is a key representative of MGA and works with a dedicated and passionate team to deliver on MGA’s exhibition program, ensuring that its exhibitions are compelling and meaningfully contribute to arts scholarship and that it engages and resonates with audiences.
The Associate Curator’s key responsibilities are to coordinate and deliver MGA’s annual calendar of exhibitions and support the development of MGA’s Collection. The Associate Curator will have an understanding of Australian photography and its place within a global context, with experience in exhibition production and installation.
MGA has over 3,100 items in its collection and specialises in Australian photography. With guidance from the Director, the Associate Curator is responsible for supporting developing and maintaining MGA’s collection alongside the Curator which includes contributing to upholding the collections policy, supporting acquisitions and donated works of art, collection management, conservation, documentation, storage, interpretation and presentation.
The Associate Curator will maintain and build MGA’s relationships within the artistic community and support stakeholder and audience engagement, including visitor services, education and public programs.
What you need:
The Associate Curator will have professional knowledge and curatorial experience in Australian photography with working knowledge of cataloguing and art handling procedures to museum standards, and will be experienced in exhibition production and installation.

Position Detail: Temporary Part Time (parental leave cover).
Position Hours: 30.4 hours per week. Some out of hours work will be required to support the needs of the gallery.
