2020 Finalists

Edi IVANCIC

Artist statement: ‘Self-portrait’ is an expression of how I felt living during the COVID-19 lockdown.  An expression of mental turmoil, confusion and darkness. An expression of normal freedoms stripped away.

The branches symbolise an intricate contorted pattern, reflecting the tensions I felt at that time. The brick wall is also a symbol of freedoms lost when confined within the walls of my home.

‘Self-portrait’ was shot at my residence and all images were then layered and digitally adjusted to achieve the final outcome.
