Artist statement: After being diagnosed with the chronic pain condition endometriosis in 2021, I was shocked to learn the average diagnosis time was seven years. Since the symptoms can be connected to menstruation, a taboo topic, many patients spend years in pain without knowing they can get help. My Invisible pain series helped me express the intangible elements of my pain, bringing them outside the body and removing the blood and gore which causes people to look away. With the support of the Australian-French Association for Innovation and Research, I ran workshops with other endometriosis patients to explore their descriptions of pain. Stabbing was a reoccurring word – as if an external force was acting upon the body with no visible trace.
