LONG & STENT

Honey LONG and Prue STENT

Artist statement: The body is inherently mysterious territory. Often within our collaborative practice we construct scenes where our bodies are employed as both raw material and apparition, becoming a conduit for subconscious feelings and interpretation. Made in early 2022, after coming out of lockdown and intense periods of isolation, ‘Muscle memory’ is from our recent series Land of milk and honey. Envisioning a space which is part dystopia, part garden of earthly delights, the series asks the question: how long can the fantasy of consumption last before it becomes a parable of destruction? The female body or ‘reproductive body’ in this image mirrors tensions felt within our creative process at the time; stagnant, stifled, shut off, as well as ripe, fertile and brimming with untapped energy.
