Artist statement: ‘Breath stream’ consists of a photographic portrait in which the act of breathing is performed as an action; the breath is then captured and materialized on the glass that frames the portrait. The ‘breath’ is caught on the glass by the artist’s action of grinding on the glass surface with metal grit as an interpretative impression of her breath.
The photographic portrait is both full and empty as a gesture. The momentary capturing of that image is a fleeting representation, while the trace of a breath is equally as elusive. By combining these two elements, these fugitive gestures are held in a delicate balance between presence and absence.
