Our Lady of the Sacred Heart
VCE Studio Arts 3 & 4

Artist statement:For this series I have used self-portraiture to communicate the feelings and experiences of young women at night. This series expresses my ideas about how women should be safe to walk home alone, whatever the time of day. They should not have to endure feeling unsafe, with wolf whistling, cat calls or feeling vulnerable while living their lives. I feel that women certainly should not be at fault for trying to live and work without fear, in the same way men do. It was interesting to note, while taking these photographs I was cat called by a group of men from the car, which added purpose to my exploration of these ideas.
