Artist statement: My work explores judgemental and biased views on women who possess and demonstrate dominant and non-typical characteristics to most women. Because of their nature they are disempowered by the men around them who feel threatened due to their determination. The topic of female disempowerment can be heavy and comes with a lot of criticism, so bringing in a more feminine and light aesthetic via my potential directions, allowed me to lessen this confrontation, but still communicate my messages and views. To emphasise societal views, and how many of them haven’t changed even though there may be progression in some areas of society, I wanted to include elements from ancient societies, specifically Ancient Greece.
