Artist statement: Inspired by the work of Jeffery Smart, this series depicts three desolate, concrete, suburban landscapes in a flat painterly style. The core idea behind this was to explore the role of light in an image and how natural light can transform pictures, constructing form, shape, movement, and aesthetic qualities. Particularly how the absence of human presence allows shadows to fall naturally over our empty streets. This is reflected in the whimsical, urban yet organic aesthetic constructed throughout the triptych.
