Ancient navigation equipment: Polynesian & European with David Fraser
17 May 2021
David Fraser will give a presentation on early navigation equipment. David will discuss navigation by Pacific islanders and using replicas of some of the equipment employed by European mariners, will demonstrate how they plied the oceans of the world from the 1600’s - 1800’s.
David Fraser is a retired Associate Professor from RMIT University and finds that in retirement he has the time to follow his long held passion for cartography, art and illustrating children’s books. He describes himself now as an artist, illustrator, musician and publisher. He enjoys giving back to the community by sharing his knowledge and experiences with others.
His creation of early navigation equipment came about from his interest in navigational charts and involvement in the creation of a book titled "Lying for the Admiralty", about Captain Cook's Endeavour voyage, authored by Margaret Cameron Ash.
