Yask Desai: Telia

17 December 2021 to 27 February 2022

This exhibition shows work by Melbourne-based Australian-Indian artist Yask Desai. His series Telia includes archival material and documentation combined with his own photographs as a means to reanimate and re-examine the experiences of the men who migrated from undivided India and worked as hawkers or travelling salesmen within rural Australia during the late 19th and early to mid-20th centuries. Most often their purpose for migrating was to earn money for the extended families that they left behind. Telia was the name given to Australia by some of the family members who remained in India.

MGA exhibition space, the Atrium Gallery, provides emerging artists with an opportunity to showcase their practice to MGA’s audiences. The Atrium Gallery is situated between MGA and the Wheelers Hill Library and is open Monday to Friday from 10.00am to 6.00pm; Saturdays from 9.00am to 4.00pm; Sundays 10.00am to 4.00pm.
