Exulansis

19 January 2023 to 20 March 2023

Ayman Kaake was born in Tripoli, Lebanon and moved to Australia in 2011. He purchased his first camera in 2015 and since then, has produced images that explore the complexities of starting a new life in another country. His inner landscapes present as staged self-portraits, that tenderly delve into feelings of uncertainty and isolation, creating otherworldly images.

The title of the exhibition Exulansis relates to a concept coined by John Koenig to explain the experiential gap when life events or psychological challenges occur that are hard for other people to understand. Challenging gravity through the expressive use of his body, Kaake takes the weight of his experiences and transports himself into limitless possibilities.

This series of works are being presented in celebration of Pride events across Australia.

MGA exhibition space, the Atrium Gallery, provides emerging artists with an opportunity to showcase their practice to MGA’s audiences. The Atrium Gallery is situated between MGA and the Wheelers Hill Library.
