Natalya Stone (1974– ) is a Melbourne-based photographer having studied at Photographic Studies College. Inspired by the National Geographic magazines that captivated her throughout her childhood, Stone has developed a photographic practice of an intrepid traveller having travelled to 43 countries. She uses her photography to explore the landscape, natural wonders and wildlife across the globe. Through her sumptuous images, she hopes to capture something of its beauty as Peter Dombrovskis once did to inspire us to do something about saving it together as she believes the ‘desire to care, protect and nurture is innately in all of us.’
Artist statement: My series Euphoric is an emotional response and reaction to doing an aerial shoot over the Highlands of Iceland; an ancient volcanic land with the power to affect the rest of the world with her changes. Pure joy coursed through my veins as the wind swept through my hair, while flying over lava fields, river deltas, volcanoes, ice caps and the jaw-dropping beauty of the coloured mountains of Landmannalaugar. Everyday concerns are obliterated from my mind, as all I can ponder is how Earth is amazing; the natural colours are incredible, and we should look after her!
