Frequently asked questions

MGA will re-open Wednesday 3 November 2021 with COVIDSafe measures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of visitors to the site. All staff and visitors over the age of 16 will need to be fully vaccinated and must provide proof of vaccination or provide an authorised Medical Certificate of exception as well as QR Code check-in, in accordance with Government regulations. Face masks must be worn by people aged eight and over unless an exception applies.

What are your open hours?
Tuesday–Friday: 10am–5pm
Saturday–Sunday: 10am–4pm

Can I make a booking to visit the gallery?
We are currently not taking bookings. There are currently no site capacity limits for visitors.

What do I need to do upon arrival?
Please line up and check-in with the concierge stationed under the marquee at the Ferntree Gully Road entrance.

All visitors over the age of 18 must provide proof of vaccination or provide an authorised Medical Certificate of exception as well as QR Code, in accordance with Government regulations. Manual check-in information will be stored securely and destroyed after 28 days.

To make things as easy as possible for you and for our staff, we ask that you please link your COVID-19 digital certificate to the Service Victoria app before your visit.

How to link your COVID-19 digital certificate to the Service Victoria app

If you’re having trouble getting the app, you can access support for the Express Plus app, Medicare online or myGov by calling 132 307 Mon–Fri: 7am–10pm, Sat–Sun: 10am–5pm.
For help with accessing your COVID-19 Digital Certificate Immunisation History Statement, phone 1800 653 809 Mon-Fri between 8am–5pm.

What if I have a medical exception?
If you have a medical exception, please let our concierge know. They will ask to see evidence of your medical exception.

Acceptable evidence is:

Certification from a medical practitioner that you are unable to receive a dose, or a further dose of a COVID-19 vaccine due to a medical contraindication; or

Certification from a medical practitioner that you are unable to receive a dose, or a further dose, of a COVID-19 vaccine due to an acute medical illness.

What if I don’t have a smart phone?
Our concierge will ask to see evidence that you are fully vaccinated. If you don’t have a smart phone acceptable evidence is:

A printed version of the COVID-19 digital certificate or immunisation history statement issued by the vaccination provider, a medical practitioner or the Australian Immunisation Register.

Please note, a copy you have printed yourself is not considered acceptable evidence. To get a printed copy of your COVID-19 digital certificate or immunisation history statement, you can call the Australian Immunisation Register on 1800 653 809.

If you are using a printed version as evidence, our staff may also ask you to show photo ID.

Our concierge will also register you for contact tracing. They will ask you to record your name and contact phone number electronically on our device using the Victorian Government’s Kiosk function, or manually using pen and paper.

Where is the best place to park?
All visitors are encouraged to park in the carpark accessed from Ferntree Gully Road, which is the easiest access point to the only entrance into the building. Visitors who park in the Jells Road carpark can walk around the building to access entrance. The Jells Road building entrance will be closed until further notice.

Do you have disability access?
Yes, there are two dedicated accessible car spots in the Ferntree Gully Road carpark. From there is a decked pathway from the carpark straight to the entrance. Inside there are also ramps to each area of the building and accessible toilets in the breezeway and gallery.

What additional health and safety measures do you have in place?
The health and wellbeing of our staff, visitors and community comes first and we are closely following the Victorian Chief Health Officer’s guidance as we adapt our operations and visitor experience.

Alongside physical distancing and mask wearing measures, hand sanitiser is conveniently placed throughout our gallery spaces and shop. Enhanced cleaning and sanitising of frequently used surfaces is maintained daily and we encourage cashless payment to help limit personal contact.

Do I need to wear a mask inside the gallery?
Yes, face masks must be worn by people aged eight and over unless an exception applies.

Is the MGA Shop open?
Yes – the MGA Shop is open. Contactless Click & Collect also remains available.

Every purchase supports MGA and we thank you for using cashless payment minimise physical contact.

Is the MGA Café open?
The MGA Café will be open from Friday 12 November with COVIDSafe measures in place. Cafe open hours are: Tuesday–Sunday 11am–4pm.

Will I need to check in separately at the café, library or gallery?
No. All visitors will have checked in and provided proof of vaccination prior to entering the site.

Can I make a reservation at the café?
Yes reservations can be made by calling 0497 686 668.

Can I hire the gallery for a private event?
